She branched into sculpture in the early 70's when a design of hers was bought by Holland Mold Co., a hobby line mold firm. In refining the molds, she found herself not satisfied until she had taught herself all she could about advanced mold techniques. This experience turned out to be invaluable.
In addition to her talent, Dolores's attention to process and detail got her commisions from Cybis Studios in Trenton. The second figurine she created for Cybis became a Presidential gift. So did another! Pope John Paul II was presented with a figurine of her creation, and so were other celebrated persons. Cybis commissioned more. Later Dolores received commissions from Hutschenreuther to use some of her painting for dinnerware patterns and designer plates. Sculpture commissions followed.
Since that time other firms have commissioned her work: Royal Doulton, Lenox, and Gorham Private and Corporate to name a few. She has had exhibitions at many galleries: St. James Cathedral Basilica (in NYC, Dec. 2003), John Stobart Kensington Gallery (Naples, FL Jan. 2001), and Yotkov Studio (NYC) among others.
She has studied extensively with such modern Masters as Barbara Meise of the Pratt Institute. She has studied with Studio Jewelers (NYC), Rocío Heredia NYC), Pascal Rocco (NYC), and Isaac Soyer & Bruce North of the Brooklyn Museum of Art school among others.
Dolores continues to work and refine her craft. While continuing work on paintings, sculpture and jewelry designs, she is also currently enjoying be inspired by the Renaissance and creating what she calls "Painted Tapestries" of gouache watercolor and dry pigment on raw canvas. She displays various pieces, rotating them from time To time, on her online gallery at www.doloresvalenza.com.
